Abstract

MADERS, Angelita Maria  and  ANGELIN, Rosângela. Direitos humanos e violência doméstica contra as mulheres: oito anos de encontros e desencontros no Brasil. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.41-58. ISSN 0874-6885.

It's urgent to stop the violence that afflicts Brazilian society, starting from domestic violence against women, to fight the gender inequality that persists, stemming from a millenial male culture. The article is concerned with the Brazilian Law nr. 11.340/2006 (commonly known as Maria da Penha Law), which has already caused a positive impact for having brought it to discussion and for its pedagogical character by punishing aggressors more heavily, contributing to a reduction in violence against women, while not terminating it completely. This elimination requires the reinforcement of some measures, the taking of others, and the development of new projects.

Keywords : women's human rights; gender; domestic violence; Maria da Penha law.
