Abstract

ROCHA, Ariza Maria. A preparação das iguarias na festa do Sagrado Coração de Jesus: a divisão sexual e social do trabalho no Cariri rural cearense. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.75-91. ISSN 0874-6885.

From a historical ethnographical basis, we aim to examine the gender division of labor in the preparation of delicacies at the party of the Sa-cred Heart in Cariri Cearense. We also seek to more fully comprehend these delicacies according to the narratives of 25 families living in the Brazilian cities of Crato, Juazeiro do Norte and Barbalha, Ceará. When interviewed, these families highlighted the influence of Padre Cícero Romão as a significant propagandist of the event beginning in 1898 and persist into the present. This study ultimately explains this and other influences while elucidating how food can serve as a uniting factor of hierarchy, power, and the social division of gender roles in the family.

Keywords : sexual division; work; gender; delicacies; Cariri Cearense.
