Abstract

LIMONT, Tatiane Barcellos. Olhares sobre o corpo e envelhecimento feminino em um contexto asilar. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2015, n.34, pp.51-68. ISSN 0874-6885.

Beyond body´s aging, old age is defined by the social division of conduct at different stages of life. This article aims to point at some authors´ views about aging and institutionalization, having as a back drop the old age experienced by women living in two Brazilian nursing homes, an ethnography done in 2010. Philanthropic institutions that house exclusively women of lower social classes and with varying degrees of physical and mental dependence. The identification of these nursing homes as “total institutions”, even on the degree of dependence, aids us to think about how old age experienced in a specific context guides us into the building of subjects and their ways of constituting on these environments.

Keywords : aging; women; nursing home; corporeality.
