This study summarises the historic and legal evolution of prostitution in Portugal aiming to give context to the ongoing debate concerning the prohibition or legalization of prostitution. In the study are also analysed some of the more common arguments pro and against the legalization of prostitution in the light of the feminist movement and within a capitalist model of social and economic organization.
