Abstract

DELGADO, Cecília. Urban agriculture, a women protagonist space: Dynamics and potentialities. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2017, n.37, pp.63-81. ISSN 0874-6885.

It is argued that urban agriculture is a practice where women are protagonists. In order to verify the argument a set of gardens in Vienna and Lisbon plus 29 relevant experiences in Portugal were used. The results show that woman presence in the gardens has space to increase; women are in hegemony as process managers; women are leading social entrepreneurship projects. In conclusion, we claim that women protagonist role should be visible, and supported by public policies in order to promote the national economy in a fair and sustainable way.

Keywords : urban agriculture; gender; women; Portugal; public policies.
