Abstract

MARTINS, Carla; CABRERA, Ana  and  CUNHA, Isabel Ferin. Beijing +25: the fight against the Covid-19 and the female political figures on television. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2020, n.44, pp.41-63.  Epub Dec 31, 2020. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/4cng-8r33.

The 25 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action coincide with an absolutely atypical year, consumed by the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. One intends to mark the occasion by articulating the strategic areas G and J set out in the Beijing Declaration, namely, Power and Media. The article presents the preliminary results of an empirical study on how the television journalism portrays the female political leaders within this context. The research confirms the hyper-visibility of the ministry of Health and the director-general of Health in the television plateaux and the technical positioning of both leaders. Nevertheless their discourses tend to be associated with the sphere of care.

Keywords : television; journalism; political leadership; gender; covid-19.
