Abstract

COUTO, Anabela Galhardo. Representations of women and landscape in Raul Brandão: Other ways of inhabiting the world. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2021, n.45, pp.45-59.  Epub Nov 30, 2021. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.34619/lrpl-cp8c.

From a perspective that crosses gender, literary and landscape studies, this paper considers the relation between women and landscape in a set of literary texts by Raul Brandão. The author draws portraits, sometimes poignant, sometimes luminous of the fishermen’s wives (Fishermen), prostitutes (The Poor), and other female figures (“The Mystery of the Tree”). It will be seen how these female characters are a privileged vehicle for rethinking the interconnection between the human, the world, nature and life.

Keywords : Raul Brandão; Representation of women; Landscape; Rethinking the human.
