Abstract

FIOLHAIS, Carlos. Ada Lovelace: A «feiticeira do número». Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2021, n.46, pp.29-48.  Epub Feb 04, 2022. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/fyuc-ofnh.

We summarize the life and work of mathematician Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron who is today an example for all girls interested in careers in science and technology for her pioneering understanding of the concept of universal computer and programming. Having lived in the midst of the Romantic era, which was a cultural reaction to the advance of science and technology, Ada tried to reconcile them with poetry and humanities, an opportune unifying vision in a world which remains divided in the «two cultures».

Keywords : Ada Lovelace; Byron; Analytical Machine; Programming; Algorithm.
