Abstract

ESTEVES, João. Rememorando Virgínia Quaresma (1882-1973). Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2022, n.47, pp.37-56.  Epub Aug 01, 2022. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/oizz-ubho.

This article is intended as a reflection on the experiences of the first Portuguese professional journalist, provided by the distance of almost forty years since the initial investigations into her feminism and republicanism. It seeks to place her in the time in which she lived, to understand the paths she followed and the contradictions that marked her, from the militancy of the first decade of the 20th century to the adhesion to Salazarism and the emptying of the feminist matrix that had once been her hallmark, both as a citizen and as a journalist and reporter.

Keywords : Virgínia Quaresma; associativism; pacifism; feminism; press.
