The year 1935 marks the beginning of women’s participation in the National Assembly. This is a historic milestone in the Portuguese society, as it gives voice to a group of the population that lived on the fringes of the public domain. It is in this context that, in 1945, the MP Virgínia Faria Gersão was elected, a high school teacher, who stood out for her active spirit and enthusiastic manner in advocating the cause of education. In this article, we intend to know and understand the context in which this MP moved, as well as to analyze her participation in the National Assembly during the IV Legislature, using archivist and bibliographic sources.
