SILVA, Regina Tavares da. Faces de Eva: a special case in the development of women’s studies in Portugal. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2023, n.50, pp.31-53.  Epub Feb 21, 2024. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/e5ez-ptkv.

Abstract: Description in colloquial terms, of the development of Women’s Studies in Portugal and of their progressive acceptance and legitimation. Some significant writings are recalled in which the subject “women” is approached under different perspectives, since the XVI century until nowadays. Laudatory writings, but also critical and didactic works, then writings on women’s rights and emancipation, and in recent years a more analytical and systematic approach leading to a progressive legitimation at the academic level, both as a specific area of research and as a mainstreaming approach in all areas of study. A global context in which Faces de Eva is a special case, both for the global approach adopted and for the many initiatives undertaken.

Keywords : women’s Studies; historical development; academic legitimacy; Faces de Eva; Portugal.
