Abstract: This article aims to present a doctoral research on how female identities are represented in the Portuguese entremez (short farce) of the 17th and 18th centuries and the establishment of links between these representations and the Portuguese historical, political and sociocultural context of the time. A case study will be presented, the Novo Entremez da Doutora Brites Marta, in order to illustrate how the entremez exposes cases of rupture with the female social standard of the time. This is an innovative research that contributes to the deepening of Gender Studies, Theatre Studies and History.
