Abstract

RIBEIRO, J. Pais et al. Further validation of the goldberg 28 items general health questionnaire. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.3, pp.278-285. ISSN 1645-0086.

The aim of our study is to contribute for the study of validation of the 28-item version of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) in a non-clinical population in Portugal. The GHQ-28 was applied to a consecutive sample of 384 individuals belonging to one health region from Portugal, regular users of the health system, from all ages (between 18 and 85 years), both genders, without mental disease. A principal components analysis was applied and a four-factor solution found. The exploratory factor analysis results corresponded to the original factor structure. The findings indicate an important consistency in the factor structure of the GHQ-28 with results from other cultural settings, supporting Goldberg’s hypothesis of a common language of psychological distress between cultures.

Keywords : General Health Questionnaire; Validation study; non clinical sample.
