Abstract

RAMOS, Catarina et al. Event related rumination inventory: psycometric properties on a portuguese sample. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.3, pp.299-310. ISSN 1645-0086.

A traumatic event can have a massive impact on survivors’ lives. The intrusive and deliberate rumination are frequently used to cope with the traumatic event. In literature is growing evidence of a positive association between deliberate rumination and perception of positive changes or posttraumatic growth. The aim of this study is to validate the Event Related Rumination Inventory for the Portuguese normative population. The sample was composed of 456 participants with an average age of 34.87 (SD = 12.52), who have experienced a traumatic event in the last five years, completed the questionnaire. Results: The exploratory factor analysis shows a structure of two factors explaining 61.42% of the variance. This structure consists of the sub-scales - Intrusive Rumination and Deliberate Rumination. The confirmatory factor analysis demonstrates that the two factors structure shows good model fit indices (c2 = 333.48, NFI = .95, CFI = .97, GFI = .93, RMSEA = .05). The inventory has excellent psychometric properties (composite reliability of .97 and .93 for intrusive and deliberate subscales, respectively). In conclusion, the model of two factors proposed by the original article, presents a good fit to the data of the Portuguese normative population.

Keywords : Factor structure; psychometric properties; intrusive rumination; deliberate rumination; posttraumatic growth.
