Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare illness perceptions and indicators of anxiety and depression in women with cervical and breast cancer. Participants were 76 women (38 with breast cancer and 38 women with cervical cancer), who answers sociodemographic and clinical data, illness perceptions, anxiety and depression questionnaires. Despite the type of cancer is different, illness perceptions was similar between two groups. All participants presented moderate to severe levels of anxiety. It is concluded that type of cancer maybe is not the main factor to understand illness perceptions in women with cancer. The high levels of anxiety showed that cancer experience is need more attention from health psychologists.
