The perception of social support from family and from friends have a big influence on the healthy psychosocial development of adolescents. Thus, our aim is to adapt and standardize for the Portuguese population the Procidado and Heller (1983) measurement scales Perception of Social Support from Family (PSS-Fam) and from Friends (PSS-Am). We present the results obtained from a sample of 851 adolescents aged between 11 and 19 years old. The results are in agreement with those found by Procidano and Heller (1983) who obtained a solution with only one factor for each scale. Psychometric studies reveal, globally, good levels of reliability and validity of the instruments. We concluded contributing two appropriate measures to assess the perceived social support in the adolescent population.
