Breast cancer is the second most common type in the world, accounting for 22 % of new cases each year. Mastectomy is one of the possible treatments for the majority of affected people. The objective is to identify the domains of quality of life more influenced by the treatment of breast cancer and scope for psychosocial adjustment after mastectomy. Exploratory, cross-sectional study using quantitative methodology, approved by the Research Ethics Committee (Case 4711/2011). The casuistry consisted of 80 women with mastectomies, with more than 45 years old, assisted by a support group, which were divided into two groups : 1 - women 01 to 04 years and 11 months post-surgery; 2 - women post- surgery more than 05 years . The "Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy -Breast"(FACT- B) was applied, which was validated for the Portuguese of Brazil. Was identified a statistically significant positive correlation between socioeconomic status and functional well -being in group 2 (r= 0.37, p=0.02 ) and a significant difference (p=0.02) between groups in the field Well social / family welfare . Group 2 had a better quality of life than group 1 , indicating that the ability to interact in their social and family context and the adaptation process occurred over time elapsed after mastectomy are important indicators of psychosocial adjustment and improvement of perception of quality of life. These factors indicate the need for professionals value the social-familial aspects in the rehabilitation process post- mastectomy.
