Abstract

ARRAIS, Alessandra da Rocha  and  ARAUJO, Tereza Cristina Cavalcanti Ferreira de. Depression postpartum: a review about risk factors and protection. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.3, pp.828-845. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/17psd180316.

The aim of this study was to investigate risk and protective factors associated to postpartum depression (PPD). A review of the literature was conducted on the databases Pubmed, Scielo and Lilacs. Keywords: risk, protection, depression and postpartum. Inclusion criteria: articles published in the 2010-2015 period, the English, Portuguese and Spanish languages, the contents explicitly treat risk factors and / or protection for the PPD. We selected 60 articles and found 53 risk factors and 11 protective factors for PPD. Risk factors cited most often belong to the category of psychosocial factors (n = 43 or 71% of the sample). The results show a wide variety of methods and tools used, the worldwide interest in the DPP theme and a large number of the risk factors for PPD (n = 53) over the low number of protective factors (n = 11) investigated in the literature covering the period 2010 to 2015. This review of the literature showed that, having had depression life, the presence of stress and anxiety and depression during pregnancy, low social and family support, lack of partner support and lack of social support in the postpartum period are factors that increase the risk of having DPP. In contrast, have participated in some prenatal program based on a psychological approach, have a healthy relationship with their mothers, have social support during pregnancy and postpartum period and maintaining positive social relationships may protect the mother against the DPP and minimize the impact of risk factors cause the puerperium.

Keywords : postpartum depression; risk factors; protective factors; review; puerperium.
