Several studies have been discussing the issue of human health, seeking to understand the different motivations for the high profile of male morbidity and mortality. In this way, the concept that individuals elaborate of themselves acts on this interpretation and helps in why certain emotions arise in certain contexts or because they inhibit or develop certain behavior, allowing to understand the continuity and coherence of man's behavior over time. The aim of this study was to identify the male self-concept, seeking to assess the implications on auto care in health. The sample was made up of 400 men ranging in age from 24 to 59 years, residents in João Pessoa-PB. The instruments used were a socio-demographic questionnaire and the Sexual Roles of inventory (BSRI). The socio-demographic data form evaluated by descriptive statistics and the BSRI parsed based on the categorization of subjects in sexual roles (androgynous, typed and undifferentiated). With regard to education, it was found that 50 has full secondary education, monthly income between 1 and 3 minimum wages (48.8). According to the answers obtained in the BSRI, 115 participants set the androgynous category. We note that the traditional model of masculinity has been questioned and rethought as a pillar of the hegemonic male identity.
