SOSTER, Andresa Pinho  e  CASTRO, Elisa Kern de. Casual sex: self-esteem and sexual feelings in university. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.18-25. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190104.

The practice of casual sex has been related to the sensation seeking and self-esteem. The objective of the study was to examine the self-esteem, the sexual sensation seeking and the perception of sexual satisfaction in women college students with (CEX) and without experience (SEX) of casual sex. With a comparative cross-sectional design, 1.133 women college students between the ages of 18 and 25 responded to an online questionnaire with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Sexual Sensation Seeking Scale. The self-esteem of the women college students of the CEX and SEX groups was similar. However, the CEX group had a greater search for general sexual sensation seeking (r = 11.46, p <0.001), which was correlated in this group with self-esteem (r = 0.13, p <0.001), number of sexual partners (r = 0.23; p < 0.001), number of sexual experiences (r = 0.20, p <0.001) and satisfaction with casual sex (r = 0.27, p <0.001). In the SEX group, the general sexual sensation seeking was negatively correlated with the perception of social prejudice (r = -0.16, p <0.01) and psychological prejudice (r = -0.32, p <0.001). The results demonstrate differences in the sexual sensation seeking and perception of satisfaction of casual sex between the groups. The greater the sexual sensation seeking, the greater the perception of satisfaction and the lower the perception of the risks, the psychological and social losses of casual sex. In CEX the sexual sensation seeking was positively correlated to the number of partners and experiences of casual sex. There was no difference in self-esteem between groups.
