This article presents a literature review on family violence as a risk factor for stress disorder Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We conducted a literature search consulting electronic databases, considering the period from 2010 to 2015. The prevalent population in the research were children and showed up in PTSD who were victims of abuse. It could be observed that violence committed in childhood is more harmful than the abuses in other stages of life, due to the disorder of the consequences on children's psychological development. The results show that individuals exposed to traumatic events, especially family violence and abuse in childhood are more prone to PTSD. Another fact important was the role of family relationships in the symptoms of PTSD and other mental disorders; family relationships are seen as the critical factor in this relationship violence-PTSD, which have a protective function and / or mitigating or aggravating as when it comes to a dysfunctional family.
