BARROS, Alessandra Santana Soares e. The retracted hospitalization in children's literature: dialogues with health education. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.3, pp.503-514. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190303.
Once children's books whose themes are related to illness and hospitalization, may prove to be especially significant work tools for professionals dealing with children hospitalized in contexts of health education, it was held a research that analyzed a sample of twenty illustrated children's books. The analysis judged the symbolic quality of the underlying discourses contained therein, running under the premises of the French School of Discourse Analysis. The findings indicated that books reproduce stereotypes socially conveyed about health professionals and carry moralizing messages about the ideal behavior expected from a hospitalized child. The research also checked if the books meet some informative function, representing in a convincing way the reality experienced by sick children at hospitals.
