Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic-degenerative pathology that has increasingly reached the elderly population and usually causes cognitive and memory deterioration, impairment in neuropsychiatric activities, and behavioral and psychological symptoms. The objective of this study was to identify the effects of psychological treatments for the elderly with AD. This is a narrative literature review. We searched for studies published between the years 2011 and 2016, in the electronic databases Medline, Pubmed, Scielo and Lilacs. After searching for data, seven articles were included in the research, which evidence the contributions of psychological treatments to the elderly in the areas of well-being, such as improvements in quality of life and mood; Of cognitive ability, with gains for autobiographical memory, semantic knowledge, attention, among others; And neuropsychiatric aspects, such as reduction of depressive symptoms and anxiety. In addition, the benefits of these treatments can already be observed in a short period of time and with a low weekly frequency of interventions.
