Abstract

Sexual satisfaction is a key factor in the sexul health and overall well-being of individuals. This empirical study of correlational mixed approach was conducted in non-institutionalized older adults and aimed to analyze the relationship between sexual satisfaction and sexual changes. Method: 123 older adults individuals has participated, 73 women and 50 men, with an average age of 75.8 years (SD = 6.5 years). a) The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), b) a Sociodemographic and Health Questionnaire, c) the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NESS) and d) a brief semi-structured interview were used, where its narratives were subjected to content analysis. Results: Four categories of Sexual Changes were generated (Behavioral; Physical/Biophysiological; Non-Normative and Psychosocial). It can be observed that the simple linear regression models of "Sexual Satisfaction" proved to be statistically significant. Discussion: The “Sexual Changes” influence the “Sexual Satisfaction” of the older adults, namely those of positive valence (Psychosocial; Behavioral). This study contributes to the perception of the fundamental work of health psychlogists in understanding and implementing interventions in the area of sexual satisfaction and sexual changes in older adults.
