PEREIRA, Ana; MENESES, Rute  e  GUIMARAES, Raquel. Relationship between psychosocial and clinical characteristics in BRCA mutation carriers. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, pp.152-160. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210123.

Given the growing concern about the psychological aspects, such as quality of life and well-being, of cancer patients and / or those with mutations, psychosocial assessment must integrate the care to be provided. The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between psychosocial and clinical characteristics of individuals with BRCA1 / 2 genetic mutation. To this end, a Sociodemographic and Clinical Questionnaire, HADS, WHOQOL-Bref and BEP were administered to 62 CHSJ users (19-77 years). Anxiety, depression and negative affect did not demonstrate significant relationships with the duration of diagnosis in the different groups. Quality of life (general facet) and personal well-being (health satisfaction) showed significant relationships with the duration of diagnosis in the group without cancer disease and in the total sample. Participants with other pathologies, but without cancer disease, reported greater satisfaction with community attachment than subjects without other pathologies and without cancer disease. Those who had psychological / psychiatric follow-up at the time of the assessment differed from those who did not have, regarding all the psychosocial variables studied. The preliminary results draw attention to the possible psychosocial implications of different clinical aspects in individuals with BRCA1 / 2 mutation, which may justify a (more or less preventive) intervention at the Psychology level.
