CARDOSO, Ana Patrícia  e  PIMENTA, Filipa. Psychometric properties: three factor eating questionnaire (TFEQ -R21) in a type 1 diabetic sample. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, pp.205-212. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210130.

Management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) triggers dietary changes. Weight gain associated with insulin administration may lead to dietary restrictions and, consequently, to the development of disorders. Thus, this study explores the psychometric qualities of the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (which assesses Cognitive Restriction, Emotional Eating, and Dietary Impairment) in a sample of adults with DM1. Method: A total of 210 individuals with T1DM aged 18 to 64 years (M = 36.31, SD = 9.82). For the use of the scale i) the English version was considered, ii) translated by three independent translators and iii) the three versions were compared, thus obtaining a final version. Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed a good fit (X2 / df = 1.931; CFI = 0.929; TLI = 0.918; RMSEA = 0.67; p <0.05 = 0.005; C.I.90%] 0.056-0.077 [ ). The factor weights were adequate (λ> 0.50) as well as the multiple correlation coefficients (r2> 0.232). Internal consistency was good (α> 0.73). The sensitivity of the items was adequate (| sk | <3; | ku | <7). The original tri-factorial structure is confirmed, as well as good psychometric properties in the present T1DM sample. We highlight the importance of using this scale in the diabetic population to assess the existence of dysfunctional eating patterns.
