The COVID-19 pandemic has gone globally, with unprecedented effects, unraveling a hidden reality: the psychological vulnerability of health workers rooted in the front lines. Therefore, the effects of COVID-19 on the psychological status of health workers and actions to reduce these damages were evaluated. The research was carried out through an integrative review of the literature with a qualitative approach, in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences - LILACS and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online - MEDLINE by the VHL with the descriptors “Infections by coronavirus ”,“ Health Personnel ”and“ Mental Health ”and PubMed Central - PMC with the descriptors“ Coronavirus infections ”,“ Health personnel ”and“ Mental health ”combined by the Boolean operator“ AND ”. Scientific documents with the full available text published in the last year (2019 to 2020) were included and duplicates were excluded. In the initial search, a total of 230 publications were found and after reading and analyzing the full texts, 24 scientific documents were selected as the final sample. According to the findings, the risk of contamination as a generator of absence from work, illness and death, in addition to intense psychological distress, which is expressed in anxiety disorder, sleep disorders, fear of becoming ill and contaminating others. It is hoped that these elements will provide guidance to public authorities and society, so that there are immediate psychological interventions under the worker's well-being during the pandemic, and that after it is ensured, emotional support and monitoring.
