Abstract

FIN, Gracielle et al. Translation and validation of a spiritual well-being scale in cancer. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.3, pp.757-766.  Epub Dec 31, 2020. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210318.

This study aims to translate and validate the EORTC QLQ-SWB32 questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese, in order to become an available tool for monitoring the spiritual well-being of cancer patients in Brazil. The study was carried out in two stages, the process of translation and cultural adaptation, with the participation of 15 patients, and the validation process with the participation of 234 patients with different cancers of both sexes, aged 19 to 81 years (M = 58, SD = 12.34). The internal consistency was evaluated by the Cronbach's Alpha, and the construct validity by the confirmatory factorial analysis. The final QLQ-SWB32 was composed of 31 items, with 21 items being divided into 4 scales (6 items to identify characteristics of relationship with others, 4 items to evaluate the relationship with self, 5 items to evaluate the relationship with something greater, and 6 items that evaluate the existential), with internal consistency of Cronbach's alpha value 0.80. The instrument demonstrated sufficient reliability, consistency and validity, supporting its use in future studies to assess the spiritual well-being of cancer patients in Brazil.
