Abstract

BAPTISTA, Catarina; AFONSO, Rosa Marina  and  SILVA, Ana Rita. Use of SenseCam as a memory prosthetics: literature review. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.3, pp.841-850.  Epub Dec 31, 2020. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210325.

Lifelogging devices are used as a way of stimulating and rehabilitating autobiographical memory (AM). SenseCam, a small digital camera, allows to increase the specificity of memories, which are recovered by viewing the photos captured by it. This study aims to: 1) describe the SenseCam device and the characteristics that justify its use for AM rehabilitation; 2) systematize the main studies about the impact of the use of SenseCam at the level of indicators of the efficiency of cognitive functioning and well-being of individuals and 3) provide clues for future investigations and applications of SenseCam. The integrated literature review methodology was used, and 11 studies were analyzed. The results demonstrate that SenseCam has a powerful effect on the stimulation and recovery of AM. However, studies are scarce, and it is essential in future investigations to carry out further studies to assess the impact of SenseCam on individuals who have not cognitive deficits, in order to investigate its potentialities in more detail.

Keywords : SenseCam; autobiographical memory; cognitive functioning; well-being.
