Abstract

MATTOS, Samuel et al. Instruments for measuring self-percepted health among adults: a scoping review. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.3, pp.878-895.  Epub Dec 31, 2020. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/20psd210328.

To map and examine the dimensions and contents of the instruments used to assess self-rated health in adults. This scope review followed the PRISMA-ScR protocol and was registered with the Science Framework under DOI 10.17605 / OSF.IO / 8VGAW. The research question was: "What and how do the instruments assess self-rated health in adults?" The search was performed in electronic databases (Web of Science, SCOPUS MEDLINE / Pubmed; LILACS and Scielo) and manual searches in the article references between June and August 2019. No year or language limits were applied. For study eligibility, those that measured self-rated health in adults were included. A critical summary was elaborated, summarizing the types of instruments, creation objective, constitutive and operational domains. Of the 429 articles initially reached, 61 met the selection criteria, resulting in four different instruments. Studies have been predominantly developed on the continent of Europe and North America, with a growing increase in publications over the past five years. The application of the instruments was generally in a clinical environment, bringing information about health in general, presenting dimensions regarding functional capacity, physical aspects, general health, vitality, social aspects, emotional aspects, mental health, self-care and usual activities. The instruments that evaluated self-rated health were identified as SF-36, EQ-5D-3L, SF-12 and COOP / WONCA, all validated for Brazilian Portuguese. The scope review showed the mapping of the instruments that evaluate self-perception of health in the adult population and its characteristics, as well as the directions for further research on the researched theme.
