VIANA, Victor et al. Impact and psychological adaptation to COVID-19: a qualitative study. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, pp.326-337.  Epub 31-Ago-2021. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220201.

COVID-19 pandemic became a public health challenge with impact in psychological well-being and mental health. This qualitative study aims to identify psychological factors associated with the disease. We gathered 13 hospitalized COVID-19 patients and 13 COVID-19 negative controls interviewed via telephone. Stressors, psychological consequences, coping and resilience were investigated. The most frequent stressor was the fear of death for the COVID-19 group and the fear to get infected for the “healthy” group. In both groups the fear of infecting family members was another important stressor. Anxiety was the most identified psychological result. Main coping strategies were family support and feelings of hope. To interact with family and optimism were the most frequent resilience factors. The aspects identified should be considered cues to develop strategies of counseling and support for patients and for general subjects.
