COHEN, Carla y TILIO, Rafael De. Multiprofessional health team perceptions about transsexual health care. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, pp.482-494. Epub 31-Ago-2021. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220213.
This paper aimed to investigate how a multiprofessional health team organize their knowledge and practices in health care for transsexuals. Six health professionals (endocrinologist, urologist, psychiatrist, psychologist and two social workers) from a public hospital in the micro-region of the Triângulo Mineiro (Brazil) responded to a semi-structured interview with ten questions about transsexuality conceptions, motivations for transsexuals seeking health service, positive and negative aspects of health care, and legislative and technical knowledge pertinent to the transgender and transsexual population. The data were organized into four categories based on an analysis of thematic content according to semantic criteria. The main results highlighted: difficulties in understanding transsexuality as a non-pathologized identity experience of discrepancy between biological and subjective aspects; that the current functioning of the heath team is considered minimally satisfactory, but insufficient; the existence of few opportunities for discussion and technical training among team members regarding transgender and transexuals themes. Despite the identification of these gaps, there is a work focused on the transsexual heath care. The results may potentially contribute to the decrease in that scenario of gender and sexual orientation transphobic practices.
