Abstract

LANDENBERGER, Thaís; MACHADO, Wagner; OLIVEIRA, Camila  and  ARGIMON, Irani. Escala de reserva cognitiva: adaptation and initial validity evidence. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, pp.753-767.  Epub Aug 31, 2021. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220233.

The Escala de Reserva Cognitiva - ERC is a self-report scale that assesses the Cognitive Reserve based on the frequency in which the person engaged in cognitivelly stimulant activities throughout life. This study aims at presenting the ERC’s adaptation and initial validity evidence for brazilian Portuguese. The ECR was employed in 132 healthy subjects, 31 adults (40-59 years old) and 101 elderly (≥ 60 years old). Part of the sample (n = 49) underwent IQ and depressive symptoms assessments. Data from the adaptation process were described qualitatively and the ERC showed semanthic equivalence with the original scale. A principal main component analysis was performed, identifying the magnitude in which each item contributed with the scale. The psychometric studies indicated a high confidence rate (α = .94) and association between ERC and education, employement level, social status, and age. No associations were found with IQ and depressive symptoms.
