The hospitalization period of the neonate in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit generates many feelings in the mothers, who are in a moment of fragility and often are responsible for accompanying their child in the hospital. The objective this article is investigate the needs of mothers of newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is an integrative literature review. The online databases selected were: National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Scopus and Web of Science. The following descriptors were used: "neonatal intensive care unit", "needs" and "mothers", combined with the boolean "and". The ten studies were analyzed, which were grouped into three categories: self-care needs, support needs and losses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Thus, the study contributed to the construction of knowledge about the experience of the mothers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, emphasizing the importance of a differentiated look for these women and their needs, from both the health team and their support network.
