Abstract

SILVA, Luiz; SOUZA, Kátia  and  HERNANDEZ, José. Attitudes towards organ donation: systematic review of brazilian studies. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.3, pp.951-970.  Epub Dec 31, 2021. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220315.

The purpose of this systematic review is to answer the following question: what are the attitudes towards organ donation for transplants found in Brazilian empirical studies published in scientific journals? A search was performed in the MEDLINE, LILACS and CINAHL databases. The articles, published between 2001-2019, were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria for this study. After analysis, 50 manuscripts were eligible to answer the research problem. Most studies pointed out as favorable attitudes to organ donation, preponderant factors such as sensitivity in communication, solidarity, empathy, compassion, cultural aspects and clarification about the diagnosis of brain death by medical professionals, involving the closure of the brain death protocol. On the other hand, the language, the distorted beliefs, the lack of clarification about the diagnosis, mutilation, fear and insecurity in the health system, seem to have a negative influence and explain the attitudes towards the denial of organ donation.
