AFONSO, Andreia Castro. Grief in dementia: a literature review. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.3, pp.991-1002. Epub Dec 31, 2021. ISSN 1645-0086. https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220318.
Grief can be a normal experience not requiring psychotherapeutic intervention, however, dementia caregivers are a high-risk group for the development of mental health problems. Scientific evidence has shown that caregivers can experience feelings of loss and grief for which they can benefit from specialized and differentiated interventions. This literature review aimes to collect consistent information, explore and deepen knowledge, approaches and skills in the area of grief in dementia caregivers and constitute a contribution in the identification of scientific evidence that supports the practices and strategies in Psychology, specifically with regard to cognitive-behavioral model. The electronic databases consulted were PubMed, B-On and SciELO using specific descriptors such as grief, mourning, bereavement, dementia, memory loss, caregivers, cognitive and behavioral therapy and without defining time limits. Three articles were found published between 2016 and 2019 referring to randomized controlled clinical trials and the results reinforce the urgency of in-depth empirical research work in this field given the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy in face-to-face setting and telephone or digital condition.
