The study aimed to investigate the relationship between spirituality and social support of aged people residents in the community. This is a quantitative and cross-sectional study, conducted with 142 seniors attended at Family Health Units (FHUs) of a municipality in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The interviews take place at home and the data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire, Pais-Ribeiro’s Spirituality Scale and Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) social support scale. The project was authorized by the Municipal Health Department of the municipality and approved by the Research Ethics Committee. As for the results, there was a weak and positive correlation between the global spirituality, hope/optimism domain with all MOS domains, and a weak and positive correlation between the belief domain and the material support and affective support domains of the MOS. It was possible to conclude that, the aged people with higher level of spirituality had more social support. It is emphasized the relevance of these variables for comprehensive health care of these elderly, favoring greater well-being and coping with difficulties.
