Obesity, previously seen as a prototype of beauty, is currently configured as a chronic disease, of multifactorial etiology, with biological, psychological and sociocultural determinants. To contribute to the knowledge about the association between obesity and other eating disorders, this research aimed to analyze scientific production about the relationship between binge eating, night eating, weight and obese people’s mental health. A systematic review of the literature was carried out, selecting articles published in portuguese and english, between 2015 and 2019, through Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. The descriptors and booleans were used: “obesidade” AND “transtorno da compulsão alimentar”; “obesidade” AND “comer noturno”; “obesidade” AND “estratégias de enfrentamento”; “obesity” AND “binge-disorders” “obesity” AND “eat night”; and “obesity” AND “coping strategies” After applying exclusion criteria, 10 articles were analyzed. Quantitative studies, carried out with patients and in health area, prevailed. It was found that binge eating and night eating influence weight regain and obese people’s mental health. It is concluded that multidisciplinary team monitoring in treatment of patients with eating disorders is of paramount importance to weight loss effectiveness in a functional way.
