Abstract

PAIS-RIBEIRO, José. Spirituality and end of life experience. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.120-130.  Epub Apr 30, 2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230112.

This study explains, discusses, and relates the concepts of approaching death and spirituality. The approach to death occurs in aging and/or in the existence of a serious illness. The concept of spirituality exists separately from that of religiosity, but they can often appear in overlap. Whether in aging or in the existence of a serious illness, spirituality increases. Research in situations of serious illness has defended the importance of developing intervention programs to support the well-being of people in this situation. The intervention in palliative care has highlighted the importance of spiritual support provided by health professionals.

Keywords : Spirituality; Near death experience; Religiosity; Holistic approach.
