High risk pregnancy is one in which the life or health of the mother and / or the fetus and / or the newborn are more likely to be reached than the average of the population considered. The study aims to evaluate the confrontation of pregnant women hospitalized in the high risk sector in a public hospital in the Municipality of Petrolina - PE. This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach. Performed with 74 pregnant women hospitalized due to high risk pregnancy. Socioeconomic and demographic questionnaire, scale of coping method (EMEP) and medical records were used. Socioeconomic, demographic and obstetric variables were categorized. Pearson's Correlation Test was used to verify the correlation of the variables and the Student's T-Test to verify if the variables were statistically the same or different. It was verified that the confrontation focused on the religious practices / fanciful thoughts and the problem presented bigger means, being more predominant among them. Hypertension and Diabetes mellitus are becoming more and more victims and strategies for prevention and awareness of these comorbidities become more evident. It was also observed the need for research on this subject and more effective public policies in the prevention of complications that can affect women in the preconception period.
