SOARES, Lizandra  e  FARO, André. Narrative review of ruminative thoughts: theoretical and practical aspects. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.353-364.  Epub 30-Abr-2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230133.

Ruminative thinking is understood as a repetitive and persistent negative cognitive pattern. It is strongly related to the presence of Common Mental Disorders such as depression and anxiety, being an important transdiagnostic factor for the understanding of the picture, course and prognosis. Rumination is seen as a construct composed of two factors: schism (pathological factor) and reflexive (factor responsible for the adaptive aspect), which signalizes its character for the development of pathological and adaptive function. The purpose of this article was to conduct a narrative review of ruminative thinking and present data on its impact on the process of psychological adjustment of individuals. Carried out by means of a literature review about ruminative thoughts and common mental disorders in national (SCIELO and PEPSIC) and international (SCOPUS and PUBMED) databases. As a limitation of this study, it was limited to a brief presentation of the ruminative process. In this way, it is necessary to develop other studies as integrative and systematic reviews on the subject.
