Abstract

SOUTO, Isabel; BRITO, Elisabeth  and  PEREIRA, Anabela. Occupational stress assessment in times of crisis: challenges to psychology 4.0. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, pp.533-543.  Epub Sep 30, 2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230224.

Occupational Stress (OS) can seriously impair the physical and mental health of workers. This theme became particularly relevant during the pandemic crisis caused by COVID-19, with healthcare professionals standing out, as the ones who were in the frontline of the response and in the pressures suffered for the necessary adaptations in the workplace. The present study presents data regarding exposure to FRPs (assessed with COPSOQ III), levels of Distress and Resilience. Of the 208 nurses surveyed, 56.3% had high levels of Distress and only 15.9% had adequate levels of resilience. For more than 80% of the participants, the level of Emotional and Cognitive demands represents a high risk for health. The results contribute evidence to enable the development of prevention guidelines. However, looking at a phenomenon only at one point in time can be limiting, as it does not reflect changes over time. In this volatile context, there is an urgent need to develop tools to maximize the process of assessment, prevention and intervention. It is discussed how artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques can provide opportunities to overcome limits and make accurate analyses that, associated with interactive e-health platforms, can constitute as highly applicable OS promotion tools.
