Abstract

JOLLUSKIN, Gloria; CARDOSO, Paulo Ribeiro; PAZ, Laila  and  SILVA, Isabel. Professionals' perceptions of domestic violence campaigns: a qualitative analysis. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, pp.560-565.  Epub Sep 30, 2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230227.

The present study aimed to obtain an approximation to the general perception of experts on the phenomenon of domestic violence against women. Twenty Psychology, Medicine, Nursing, Advertising, Education and Justice professionals were interviewed, using an interview script composed of seven questions regarding the interviewee's perspective on the phenomenon of domestic violence against women, the awareness of the population on this issue and on prevention campaigns. After transcribing the interviews, a qualitative analysis was carried out. Three categories were identified: 1) Lack of specific information about the phenomenon of domestic violence; 2) Social issues and reinforcements which favour the acceptance of domestic violence; and 3) Impunity towards aggressors. According to the participants, the victims are unaware of other types of violence other than physical violence. They also highlighted the attempt to trivialize the crimes, either by disqualifying the victims for their behaviour or by applying softer sentences. Finally, they emphasized that the search for the protection of women's rights is the product of recent legislative innovations, acquiring more relevance with every action that raises them to the status of subjects of rights.

Keywords : Domestic violence; Prevention campaigns; Experts' perceptions; Qualitative analysis.
