Resumen

SIMOES, Michel da Matta  y  SANTOS, Manoel Antônio dos. Father-child relationship and bulimia nervosa: a look to the bond. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, pp.574-582.  Epub 30-Sep-2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230229.

Eating Disorders, which include Bulimia Nervosa, are characterized by severe clinical conditions in which the incidence is substantially higher in women. Studies are scarce about the father-child relationship in this context, mainly in cases of a male child. This study aimed to comprehend the father-child bond and the paternity of a father of a young adult man in treatment at a specialized service. The study is descriptive-exploratory, with a qualitative approach, in which five fathers participated. This paper presents the content related to a single participant whose son has bulimia nervosa. For the data collection, it was used: a Sociodemographic Data Form and the Critério Brasil (CCEB), the Genogram, and a Semi-structured Interview Script. The results were analyzed through Thematic Analysis and discussed based on the Psychoanalysis of Linking Configurations. The participant’s relationship with his father showed to be relevant to comprehend the role he plays in the current family. Experiences lived in the family of origin influence the way he deals with paternity and impact his difficulties in dealing with his son. The study shows that targeting the father, with the purpose of including him in the treatment and enhancing the parental bond, has strategic importance as a factor in treatment potentializing.
