FERREIRA-LOCATELI, Camila et al. Memory, learning and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.3, pp.748-763.  Epub 31-Dez-2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230313.

A neuropediatric center of a university hospital in Paraná frequently refers school-aged children and adolescents with recurrent complaints of learning, behavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders for neuropsychological care and assessment. The literature indicates that children with learning disability complaints have low performance on memory tests. The aim of the present study was to describe the mnemonic profile of a sample consisting of 31 participants and evaluate the relationship between learning and memory, school performance, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. The descriptive correlational, retrospective and documentary method was used. The study showed a high prevalence of impairments in school performance, coupled with a high rate of impairments in visual short-term memory. Verbal short-term and long-term memory showed significant positive correlations with school performance, especially with arithmetic skills. Learning through oral repetition of the information indicates that most of the sample would benefit from this teaching practice. We conclude the importance of memory and learning assessment for its potential to clarify health professionals regarding the most appropriate therapy, as well as educators regarding the best learning strategies.
