What is the association between empathy, parental regulation and violence in adolescent? This study analyze the association between empathy, parental regulation and violence in adolescents. Cross-sectional study conducted with 722 adolescents in Foz do Iguaçu. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test and binomial logistic regression were used for data analysis. The absence of parental regulation and involvement in fights indicated a relationship with reduced frequency of empathy for girls. The increase in empathy difficulty was related to physical aggression in the family and self-injury for boys, and for girls with the absence of parental regulation. Being bullied was related to increased difficulty with empathy for both genders. There was an association between empathy, parental regulation, physical aggression in the family and victim of bullying. It confirms the impact of parental regulation and violence on the development of empathy in adolescents and highlights the importance for the development of empathy training programs in education and public health in the border region.
