CAPOROSSI, Aline et al. Effects of Taigeiko on the cognitive and functional aspects of multiple sclerosis. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.3, pp.906-917.  Epub 31-Dez-2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230326.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease, which generates motor and cognitive impairments. Physical exercise is a means of minimizing the aggravations caused by the disease, and Taigeiko is a mental and physical exercise of oriental origin, which can mitigate these two types of damage. This interdisciplinary study between physical education and psychology examined the influence of the practice of Taigeiko on the cognitive and functional aspects of people with MS, with the aim of comparing the initial and final measures of physical and mental fitness of this group after eight weeks of practice of Taigeiko . The sample consisted of an experimental group (EG) (n = 10) and a control group (CG) (n = 9). The Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), cognitive assessment by the Neupsilin and Complex Figures of Rey tests, cognitive-motor ability through the Dual Task Test and motor ability with Walk and Time Up and Go (TUG) tests were evaluated . After training with Taigeiko, the GE improved its performance in 4 tests of the 5 applied tests, being Rey Complex Figures (p = 0.0034), walking speed (p = 0.03) and double task (p = 0.013), whereas CG only showed a 27.8% reduction in prospective memory in the NEUPSILIN test. Taigeiko has proved to be an effective practice, both in terms of functional capabilities as well as visual perception and immediate memory.
