Abstract

This study aims to investigate the importance of work in the process of psychosocial rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions with drug addicts, based on the perception of professionals working in the area of mental health. Sample composed of 24 health professionals from four Psychosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and Drug users (CAPSad) from four cities in the midwest of São Paulo State. For data collection, a semi-structured questionnaire containing 54 self-completed questions was elaborate, 28 closed and 26 open. There was a small number of professionals in the services, as well as weaknesses in the offer and financial assistance for specialization and professional training in chemical dependence, which can compromise the user's care. Most professionals reported working on the logic of psychosocial rehabilitation, but the work is hardly approach during the interventions, pointing to weaknesses in the integral and total practice of psychosocial rehabilitation. The impact of psychiatric comorbidities and social stigma on drug addicts in all life contexts was evidence, causing losses mainly in socio-family and labor contexts. The results could contribute to the reflection of professional practice in the process of professional rehabilitation of drug addicts, so that the work can be incorporate into treatment practices and offer opportunities to work together with the community, as recommended in psychosocial rehabilitation. The results may contribute to reflections on the need for therapeutic interventions that address work, its implications and possibilities, considering this as essential in the process of social inclusion.
