This article is an international systematic review of obstetric violence (OV) done with PRISMA method. In all, 25 articles were included in the review, of which 20 were from underdeveloped countries. It was found that OV is common throughout the world, with conceptual differences according to the social, cultural and economic context in which it occurs. It presents itself through basic deprivations such as access to minimum health conditions, as well as disrespect with parturient and puerperal women through the denial of rights as a companion during childbirth and postpartum, positive childbirth experience and evidence-based care, violence-free care. It is directly linked to issues of power, constituting part of structural violence against women, impregnated with gender aspects. In this way, only complexes interventions such as legal aspects, professional training in health care, education for health and the government itself would be able to contribute to the reduction of this practice.
