MACHADO, Gelsimar; MARTINS, Raul  e  ROMERA, Liana. Drug abuse prevention with schools from social skills. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.1, pp.115-125.  Epub 30-Jun-2023. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/23psd240110.

This work presents the results of a research on a program to prevent the abuse of alcohol and other drugs based on social skills with the adolescent public. Social skills are different classes of behavior that the individual has to deal with interpersonal situations. The research aimed to identify alcohol and other drugs use rates and their relationship with social skills among adolescents in a school in the interior of the state of Espírito Santo, as well as to implement and evaluate a program to prevent the abuse of these substances from the Training of Social Skills. Two instruments were used for the production of data: the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), applied before and after the prevention program, followed by the Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents (IHSA-Del-Prette). The data pointed out that there may be a relationship between the largest repertoire of social skills with the lowest consumption of alcohol, as well as its inverse, although it is necessary to consider that this relationship does not occur in a simple way. In the results of the post-test (AUDIT), there was a reduction in the alcohol consumption of the participants, especially when compared to the initial evaluation. It is concluded that the social skills strategy makes it possible to achieve significant results regarding the prevention of drug abuse, especially when the actions go beyond traditional methodologies with reduced effectiveness and use participatory methodologies.
